About
Phillip Van is an award winning writer/director. His work often explores the surreal in the everyday and the lives of adolescents and outsiders. He has been featured in Shoot Magazine’s “Up & Coming Directors” issue, named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film,” and his work has appeared in the New York Times, Creativity, Shots, Rolling Stone, on MTV, Pitchfork, Stereogum, G4tv and AdAge’s “Best Ads.” His commercial work has won national and regional Addy awards as well as ProMax, One Show and D&AD awards.
While in graduate film at NYU, he received a Student Academy Award and a BAFTA/LA award for his thesis. He went on to make narrative short films that received accolades in festivals including Berlin, HBO US Comedy Arts, Seattle, Aspen and Gen Art. Phillip is from a multi-ethnic background, grew up in the Pacific Northwest and currently lives in Brooklyn.
