Artist Profile
Pulsing. Throbbing. Almost frenetic, but not to the point of excess. What you see when you smoke too much of the happy stuff. This is Paulo Correa's art. A jumble of lines, an explosion of colors, or both, jumping off the pages, coming at you, like they're alive.

As an art director and illustrator, Paulo believes in the organic form, in the value of the hand's natural flow, in the pencil marks, and even in their mistakes. He puts premium over these, more than the perfected mechanisms of computers. With strong influences from Filipino ethnic patterns, pop art, punk art, surrealist painter, Paulo crafts his perceptions, opinions, and views into artworks that are rich both visually and contextually.

And yet, amidst all the activity, he can create the perfect balance in his pieces. His juxtapositions - mood vs. message, color vs. content - are always just right. No topic too sad can be drawn too brightly; no topic too bold can be drawn with such restraint.

In the end, it's all about being raw. It's about the natural flow from eye to brain to hand to paper. This is the essence of Paulo's art, this is why it's so alive.
